Job summary

Surgery Partners, Inc is seeking a Collections Clerk to support billing operations and third-party payer processes in our San Jose facilities. You will identify delinquent accounts, contact patients by phone, and help submit claims to payers while collaborating with the administrator and finance team.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, 2 years of medical collections experience, and familiarity with CPT/ICD-10 coding and medical billing software.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• 2 years of medical collections experience preferred.
• Experience with medical practice billing software necessary.
• Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding and electronic billing.
• Knowledge of Windows-based systems and Microsoft Office.
• Proficiency in medical terminology.
• Ability to communicate effectively with center management, center staff, patients and physicians.

JOB TITLE: Collections Clerk

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Responsible for assisting with all functions associated with billing and third-party payers. Must be an effective communicator who can express himself/herself on a daily basis in a professional manner both verbally and in writing as well as be a proactive professional who can identify collection trends and solve them in a timely manner.

Essential Functions

• Identifies delinquent accounts, aging period and payment sources, and performs collection actions including contacting patients by telephone and resubmitting claims to the appropriate payer.
• Evaluates patient financial status and establishes contract payment plans.
• keeps informed on all current Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payer regulations and

requirements. Informs management and other staff members of changes and keeps documentation current and accessible.

Education/Experience

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• 2 years of medical collections experience preferred
• Experience with medical practice billing software necessary

Qualifications

• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of computers with experience in windows-based systems and Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding and electronic billing necessary
• Ability to communicate effectively with center management, center staff, patients, their families, the physicians and their staff
• Ability to read, write and speak the English language
• Ability to handle frequent interruptions that result in having to re-evaluate priorities
• Proficient in medical terminology
• Detail oriented
