Job Title:

Collections Associate Attorney

Job Overview:

A law firm based in Tampa, FL, is seeking a detail-oriented attorney licensed in Wisconsin to join its high-volume collections and creditors' rights litigation practice. The role involves independently managing case files, appearing in court, and negotiating resolutions across a broad range of financial recovery matters. This opportunity is being offered through a legal recruiting partner on behalf of a firm recognized for its national footprint and focus on representing financial institutions.

Duties:
  1. Handle all stages of assigned consumer and commercial collection cases, from intake through disposition
  2. Prepare legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery responses
  3. Attend and argue matters in state courts throughout Wisconsin
  4. Engage in settlement discussions and negotiate payment arrangements with opposing parties
  5. Conduct statutory and case law research to support litigation strategy and ensure legal compliance
  6. Maintain case files using internal systems, ensuring timely and accurate documentation
  7. Liaise professionally with clients, court officials, and opposing counsel
  8. Follow firm-wide and client-specific procedural requirements
  9. Coordinate with in-house litigation support and compliance personnel to streamline workflows
Requirements:
  • Active and good-standing admission to the Wisconsin Bar
  • Minimum of 3 years of legal experience in collections, civil litigation, or related areas
  • Working knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and applicable Wisconsin statutes
  • Proven ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced, volume-driven environment
  • Strong advocacy and legal drafting abilities
  • Familiarity with legal research databases and litigation management platforms
  • Additional bar admissions are considered advantageous
Education:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:
  • Other State Bar admissions considered a plus
