Job summary

City of San Juan, Texas is seeking a Sewage/Infrastructure Worker to inspect and maintain lift stations, manholes and sewer lines. The role involves installing or repairing sewer lines and pumps, and assisting at water/wastewater facilities as needed.

The position requires lifting 100–150 lbs occasionally, operating power tools, and working in diverse weather conditions with safety in mind. A valid Texas driver's license is required, and experience in wastewater operations is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to lift 100-150 lbs occasionally.
  • Preferred experience in wastewater utility operations or related field.
  • T.C.E.Q. License Class would be a plus (D or higher).

HOURLY: $14.98

JOB OBJECTIVES

Under general supervision of' the Sewer Collection Supervisor. Several decisions are made daily requiring some interpretations and judgment. Position has no responsibilities for reports, records or any supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Inspects and maintains lift stations, manholes and sewer collection lines.
  2. Ensures all equipment is in good operating conditions.
  3. Installs or repairs sewer lines, manholes, pumps and related accessories.
  4. Occasionally assists in the repair of equipment at the water/wastewater plant.
  5. Responds and assists at work sites with proper equipment.
  6. Must assist in lifting 100-150lbs occasionally (pumps, pipes valves, suction hoses, concrete bags)
  7. Work with power tools (Ex. drill, weed eaters, chainsaws, etc.)
  8. Requires working with deodorant or related lift station chemicals.
  9. Ensures that city vehicle is in good condition.
  10. Reports damages to any of the city facilities.
  11. Work is continuous and ongoing.
  12. May perform other duties as assigned for different events (Ex. Parades or City events).
  13. Works in a variety of weather conditions.
  14. Will perform other related duties as assigned.
EQUIPMENT / MATERIALS

City vehicles, backhoes, dump trucks, generators, hand and powered tools, ladders, hammers, compressors, two-way radio, and general garden tools (weed eaters, push mowers, chain saws, hedgers, blowers, and garden tractors).

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Some unusual working hours, irregular hours or shifts, may involve occasional travel. Position is subject to 24-hour emergency callbacks. The physical demands include exposure to hazards which might result in serious injury and may works under extreme outdoor conditions. Continuous lifting of heavy materials, constant physical movement; demands physical strength associated with hard labor.

EDUCATION / SKILLS REQUIRED

Requires a high school diploma or GED. Must have a valid Texas drivers' license with a satisfactory driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience working in the wastewater utility operations or related field. T.C.E.Q. License Class "D" Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator or Class "I" collection system operator, Class II Collection System Operator or Class "C" Wastewater Operator.
