Job summary

The City of Nashua is seeking a Collection Equipment Operator to join the Solid Waste Division. You will drive a range of collection trucks, perform safety inspections, and maintain equipment.

This full-time role runs Monday–Friday, 6:45 am to 2:45 pm and is part of the AFSCME unit, with starting hourly pay up to $29.20.

Qualifications

• This role requires 6–12 months of related work experience.
• Solid knowledge of Nashua streets and safe operating procedures.
• Familiarity with hazards and safety equipment in solid waste collection.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks including solid waste, bulky items, recycling and yard waste.
• Perform daily safety and service inspections; ensure vehicles are cleaned and maintained.
• Work full-time Monday–Friday, 6:45 am–2:45 pm; participate in AFSCME union.

JOB SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for operating a variety of different trucks including but not limited to solid waste, bulky items, recycling and yard waste collection trucks. Duties include collecting all types of waste, performing daily and routine safety and service inspections on vehicles and ensuring vehicles are properly cleaned and maintained. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 6:45 am to 2:45 pm, is part of the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Unit, and provides an excellent work life balance. The position is grade 3, with a starting hourly rate not to exceed $29.20.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have 6-12 months similar or related work experience
• Considerable working knowledge of streets within the City
• A thorough knowledge of hazards and safety equipment involved in the solid waste industry
• Must have a high school diploma or certified equivalent
• Must possess a valid CDL-B driver's license
