Job summary

Illinois Tool Works Inc. is seeking a cold-heading operator to join our team. You will set up and operate single and multi-die header machines to forge automotive fasteners from metal rod or wire, ensuring quality and safety. Shift runs 3:00 pm–11:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with overtime.

You will assist setup operators, adjust dies, monitor production, maintain equipment, and complete required documentation. This is a hands-on role in a manufacturing environment with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or the equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
• Prior experience operating single and multi-die header machines is a plus.
• Continuous Improvement mindset.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to complete routine production and quality reports.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Understanding and compliance with safety rules and regulations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist and observe designated Setup Operators in operation and setup of machinery.
• Select, install, and align dies, cutting tools, guides, and stops to setup machine; set controls for machine actions.
• Position metal wire or rod on feed spindle and thread through straightening rolls into feed mechanism.
• Adjust dies settings to meet tolerances and quality standards.
• Start machine and monitor operations for malfunctions and defects.
• Maintain, oil, and clean machines regularly.
• Drain and clean oil trays; dispose of scrap and sweep floor to maintain housekeeping.
• Ensure all quality and safety documentation is completed.
