Responsibilities

Role Overview

The Coil Test Lead oversees the coil quality department, coordinating with other departments, and determining the daily work priorities based on the shop load and company priorities. This position ensures that all quality control testing is done in accordance with specifications, and provides leadership and guidance to team members to maintain high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

  • Read, understand, and enforce safety programs and policies of RAE Corporation. Lead by example by committing to safe work practices, coaching and correcting unsafe behaviors, addressing safety hazards, and responding to employee concerns regarding hazards in their work area.
  • Read, understand, and enforce company policies. Communicate company expectations to department employees and provide feedback to employees as needed.
  • Report injuries to the EHS manager in a timely manner, working together to correct hazards and coordinate time off for work injuries. Offer transitional duties to employees with work restrictions.
  • Support performance management by providing ongoing coaching and feedback to employees, communicating department goals, notifying the supervisor of performance issues, and participating in annual performance reviews.
  • Assist in coordinating training programs for new hires and ensure they receive the necessary resources, training, and feedback to become valuable team members.
  • Attend leadership and safety training as required.
  • Act as the “go-to” person for day-to-day operations in the coil QC testing department.
  • Coach, train, mentor, and informally counsel coworkers, providing ongoing feedback to optimize job performance.
  • Coach, train, mentor, and informally counsel coworkers on safe work practices.
  • Provide recommendations and feedback on operational matters, including input on employee performance reviews.
  • Help resolve conflicts or disagreements between coworkers in the department.
  • Keep accurate records of completed and scrapped work.
  • Train employees in procedures and work methods.
  • Ensure that manufacturing instructions are followed.
  • Reject or discard products, materials, and equipment not meeting specifications.
  • Analyze and interpret blueprints, data, manuals, and other materials to determine specifications, inspection procedures, and certification methods.
  • Inspect and test coils for conformance to specifications, identifying and repairing leaks found during pressure testing.
  • Notify supervisors and other personnel of production issues and assist in identifying and correcting them.
  • Discuss inspection results with responsible parties and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor production operations and equipment to ensure compliance with specifications, making or ordering necessary process or assembly adjustments.
  • Read dials and meters to verify that equipment is functioning at specified levels.
  • Repair equipment to correct defects found during inspections as needed.
  • Stack and arrange tested products for further processing, shipping, or packaging and transport products to other workstations.
  • Complete tasks assigned by the supervisor as needed.
  • Comply with government regulations, laws, company policies, and company procedures.
  • Work overtime as necessary.
  • Attend work as required and arrive on time.
  • Accurately charge time in the time and attendance system to ensure proper labor distribution and payroll.
  • Accurately log, track, and approve shop orders within the IFS system in a timely manner.
  • Follow manufacturing instructions, work independently without constant supervision, be self-motivated, and complete tasks on time.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and report malfunctioning equipment to maintenance.
  • Instruct employees to maintain a clean work area and uphold housekeeping standards.
  • Wear all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
Qualifications

Education & Experience:

A high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is preferred. Previous experience in quality control or coil testing is beneficial.

  • Strong knowledge of coil testing procedures and quality standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and bills of material.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to provide effective coaching and training to team members.
Certificates, Licenses, or Training

OSHA 10-hour certification or equivalent safety training.

Interaction with Others

Reports to the Supervisor and interacts closely with the quality control team, supervisors, and production staff. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with all employees, both in person and through written communication.

Working Environment

Work is performed in a heavy industrial production area with exposure to noise, temperature extremes, and potential safety hazards. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times. The position requires physical activity, including lifting, bending, and repetitive motion.
