Job summary

Akron Children’s Hospital is seeking a Coding Specialist II for full-time remote work. The role involves training and mentoring Coding Specialist I staff, performing CPT/ICD coding, and reviewing EPIC queues to ensure accurate billing prior to charge entry.

Responsibilities include prospective reviews of surgical/procedural visits, coding validation for physician office visits, and occasional charge entry in EPIC or related systems. Hybrid or remote options may apply.

Qualifications

• Experience in CPT and ICD coding is preferred.
• Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Certification: AAPC or AHIMA Coding Certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Provides training, mentoring, and leadership to Coding Specialist I employees.
• Performs coding review and assigns CPT, HCPCS, and ICD codes prior to charge entry.
• Reviews EPIC charge review work queues for coding/billing errors and makes coding changes accordingly.
• Conducts prospective reviews of surgical or procedural visits for CPT/HCPCS/ICD code assignments before charge entry.
• Assesses 5%-10% physician office visits for proper CPT/HCPCS/ICD coding before charge entry.
• Performs charge entry into EPIC, AS400, or other hospital billing systems as needed.
• Other duties as required.

Summary: Prefer coding experience in OB/GYN or fetal maternal medicine. The Coding Specialist II provides training, mentoring, and leadership to Coding Specialist I employees.

Responsibilities:

• 1.tProvides training, mentoring, and leadership to Coding Specialist I employees.
• 2.tProvides daily reconciliation of all clinical services provided. Performs coding function through review and analysis of electronic, paper, or hybrid patient medical records and assigns CPT, HCPCS and ICD codes accordingly, prior to charge entry.
• 3.tReviews EPIC charge review work queues daily for coding/billing errors and makes necessary and appropriate coding changes based on medical documentation for both professional and technical charge revenue, prior to charge entry.
• 4.tConducts prospective reviews of all surgical or procedural visits reviewing documentation for appropriate CPT, HCPCS, and ICD code assignment, prior to charge entry.
• 5.tConducts periodic prospective reviews of 5%-10% physician office visits by reviewing medical records for proper CPT, HCPCS, and ICD code assignment, prior to charge entry.
• 6.tPerforms charge entry function as needed into EPIC or AS400 or any other hospital billing system for all clinical, coded and billable services.
• 7.tOther duties as required.

• 3.tYears of relevant experience: 3 to 5 years is preferred.
