Job summary

The Bureau of Construction Codes of the State of Michigan is seeking a Department Technician 7‑E9 to perform document compliance, process permit applications, and guide external users on boiler, elevator, and ski/amusement codes and inspections fees.

You will handle inquiries, determine inspection eligibility, respond to complaints and FOIA requests, update customer records, and provide forms, invoices, and violation notices, with support across related programs.

Qualifications

• Education typically acquired through completion of high school.
• Two years of college may substitute for the experience requirement.
• Bachelor’s degree may substitute for the experience requirement.
• Bachelor’s degree plus one year of job‑related experience may substitute for the experience requirement.

Responsibilities

• Conduct document compliance and process applications for permit requesters.
• Provide technical guidance to external users on boiler, elevator, ski, and amusement codes and fees.
• Assist callers with general inquiries, determine eligibility for inspections, and respond to complaints.
• Fulfill FOIA requests and update customer information; provide forms, invoices, and violation notices.
• Explain rules, codes, and policies; provide backup support to other areas.
