Role Overview

As an Outpatient Medical Coder, you will collaborate with peers, offer suggestions to improve workflow, and assist the hospital coding team in meeting organizational goals. Your expertise will be essential in assigning ICD-10-CM/CPT codes based on provider documentation for primary care and specialty clinics.

Qualifications

• Education: Requires an associate degree in Health Information Technology or related field; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Experience: Prior healthcare coding experience demonstrating relevant knowledge and skills.
• Training: Ability to pass a coding exam prior to hire.
• Certification: Must have RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of coding patient medical records, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS.
• Understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical and surgical terminology, pharmacology, and documentation terminology.
• Ability to interpret data and assign appropriate codes.
• Familiarity with ICD-10, APC, MS DRGs, and APC systems.
• Adherence to ethical coding standards.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions.
• Proficiency in English communication skills.
