Job summary

MaineGeneral is seeking a Medical Coder to assign diagnosis and procedure codes to ensure accurate documentation and reimbursement for services provided.

The role includes reconciling patient lists and discharge reports, reviewing outpatient/ancillary visit documentation to assign appropriate codes and modifiers, seeking clarification as needed, and communicating findings to providers.

  • Reports back to providers and/or administrators regarding missing information.
  • Reviews visit documentation from 1-2 outpatient and/or ancillary areas to identify appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes (examples: lab, non interventional radiology, PT/OT, Mental Health outpatient treatment primary care, specialty care).
  • Uses coding guidelines and clinics to accurately assign and sequence appropriate codes for 1-2 outpatient and/or ancillary patient areas in clinical information systems, including the assignment of appropriate modifiers as necessary.
  • Seeks clarification from healthcare providers or other designated resources to ensure accurate and complete coding.

Compensation Information:

$20.44 - $35.77

The hourly pay range shown represents the base pay range for this position. Individual pay is determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, skills, and market considerations. In addition to base pay, eligible team members may earn additional compensation through shift, weekend, holiday, on‑call, and other applicable differentials.
