Job Overview

Analyzes and translates medical and clinical diagnoses, procedures, injuries, or illnesses into designated numerical codes, such as CPT/ICD-10-CM. Codes records for use in planning physician services. Codes simple procedures such as Radiology, EKGs, Echoes, and other minor procedures. May code Evaluation and Management Services (E/M). Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH's Mission, Vision, and Values.

Key Responsibilities

• Review patient information, assign CPT/ICD-10-CM codes and modifiers. Code simple procedures and possibly E/M services.
• Discuss documentation inconsistencies with providers and work with clinicians to ensure complete and accurate records.
• Research denied claims, process appropriately, and assist with patient accounts as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• No prior work experience required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and pharmacology.
• Proficiency in CPT/ICD-10-CM coding and modifiers.
• Strong computer skills.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to interpret coding guidelines, payer policies, and medical charts.
• Ability to examine documents and ensure completeness.
• Ability to perform routine tasks and contribute to team objectives.

Supervision

• No supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands

• Includes climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motions.
• Requires good balance and coordination.
• Light physical work exerting up to 25 lbs. occasionally and 10 lbs. frequently.
• Close visual acuity for data analysis and reading.
• Typically performed in a general office environment.
