Job summary

OSF HealthCare is seeking a Coder to assign accurate ICD-CM/PCS and CPT/HCPCS codes for inpatient diagnoses and procedures. You will abstract essential data for statistics and reimbursement and work closely with the revenue cycle team to ensure proper billing.

The role requires inpatient coding experience or completed PCS training, a high school diploma, and coding certifications (RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P/CCA/CPC). Candidates in Illinois or Michigan are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma/GED.
• Licensure/Certification: Completion of AAPC or AHIMA approved coding certificate program with RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P/CCA/CPC/CPC-A/CPC-H or RHIA/RHIT eligible within 1 year of hire.
• Proficiency with medical terminology, anatomy/physiology and hospital procedures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to concentrate on tasks over time.

Expected pay for this position is $25.10 - $29.54/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is an Hourly position.

Overview

Candidates in Illinois or Michigan only, with inpatient coding experience or those who have already completed PCS procedure coding training are encouraged to apply.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Coder position assigns accurate ICD-CM/PCS & CPT/HCPCS codes to all pertinent diagnoses and procedures to introductory and other moderate level complexity coding assignments. Coder position complies with coding guidelines, abstracts all required information for statistical and reimbursement purposes. This position works closely with revenue cycle team members to ensure appropriate billing and reimbursement.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma/ GED.

Licensure/ Certification: Completion of AAPC or AHIMA approved coding certificate program with one of the following certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H,

OR

RHIA/RHIT-eligible and obtained within 1 year of hire.

Other Skills/ Knowledge:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented. Completed Medical Coding courses focused on ICD-CM/PCS and CPT coding guidelines.

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, disease processes, medical records and hospital procedures.

Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted by Basic keyboard and software application skills.

Demonstrated ability to communicate via written and verbal means.

Able to provide information to supervisors, co-workers and physicians by telephone, written, e-mail or in person.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: 1 year professional or hospital coding experience.
