Job summary

Town of Gilbert is seeking a Code Inspector I to join Development Services. The role reports to the Inspections Supervisor and focuses on inspecting structures, documenting code violations, and handling complaints.

The position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime, with a background check and physical required. Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, 2–3 years of related enforcement experience, a valid Arizona driver's license, and ACEA Level I certification within 18 months

Qualifications

The Code Inspector I reports to the Inspections Supervisor. The primary functions of this position include:

  • Conducting inspections of structures and materials to identify and resolve code violations
  • Preparing detailed reports and documenting violations with photos and evidence for possible use in legal proceedings
  • Receiving, recording, and investigating complaints from the public, staff, and outside agencies
  • Researching ownership records, prior complaints, and applicable codes and regulations

Employment with the Town of Gilbert is at-will and may be terminated by either the employee or the Town at any time, with or without cause or notice. This is a non-exempt position eligible for overtime.

Tentative Recruitment Timeline:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • 2-3 years of related work experience, preferably in an enforcement field (investigative report writing and documentation, issuing citations, preparing courtroom documents)
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License
  • Must possess or obtain an Arizona Code Enforcement Assocation (ACEA) Level I Code Academy certification withing 18 months of hire.

This position requires a pre-employment background check and physical.

This position has been designated as a Medium work position that spends a portion of their workday in the field and a portion in the office.
