Job summary

Buncombe County seeks a Code Enforcement Officer Supervisor to lead a small team and ensure compliance with electrical, building, mechanical, and plumbing codes. The role blends administrative oversight with skilled inspections, on-site and remote, to uphold building safety and permit integrity.

The position requires an Associate degree, 5 years in construction, and Standard Level III certifications in all four trades, plus ongoing CE. Hybrid/remote options are available within the county.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in related field and 5+ years in residential/commercial construction.
• Minimum 24 hours of continuing education annually.
• Must possess Standard Level III certifications in electrical, building, mechanical and plumbing (NC Code Qualification Board).

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize and assign work to ensure timely inspections and plan reviews.
• Check plans and specifications for compliance with codes for residential and commercial buildings.
• Administer personnel matters: recruitment, training, schedules, performance and communication.
• Assist in developing departmental goals and policies for inspections guidelines and procedures.
• Conduct quality control reviews of permit issuance to ensure customer service and efficiency.
• Perform inspections as Code Enforcement Officer III, on-site or virtual, for code compliance.
