Job summary

Buncombe County Government is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer Supervisor to lead a team of inspectors within the Permits and Inspections Department. The role oversees plan reviews, inspections, and code enforcement for electrical, building, mechanical, and plumbing trades.

Required are an Associate degree, 5+ years in construction, and Standard Level III credentials in four trades, plus 24 hours CE annually and a NC driver’s license. Start date no earlier than Oct 5, 2026.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in related field; 5+ years in residential/commercial construction.
• At least 3 years as Code Enforcement Officer III.
• Must hold Standard Level III certifications in electrical, building, mechanical, and plumbing.
• Minimum 24 hours of continuing education annually.
• Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a team of inspectors; assign and manage work.
• Review plans for code compliance in residential and commercial projects.
• Maintain records and prepare reports on inspections and violations.
• Appear in court to present evidence when required.
