Riverside County is recruiting for Code Enforcement Officer I to enforce land use, housing, zoning, abatement, and nuisance codes countywide. Incumbents will investigate complaints, research records, conduct site inspections, and coordinate with other agencies.
Applicants should know state laws and county codes, possess investigative skills, and have a driver’s license. The role offers growth toward the Code Enforcement Officer II with probationary progression.
The Riverside County Code Enforcement Department has multiple opportunities for Code Enforcement Officer I positions located throughout Riverside County. Two positions will support the Cannabis Team in Riverside, one will support the Lakeland Team in Lake Elsinore, and one will support the San Jacinto Team.
The incumbents will ensure compliance with County land use, housing, zoning, abatement, and nuisance codes and ordinances, as well as applicable state laws, by receiving, recording, and investigating complaints regarding non-compliance. The selected candidates will conduct code compliance investigations by researching relevant records and databases; coordinating with other departments, agencies, and entities as needed; and contacting property and business owners to schedule and perform site inspections.
The department is seeking applicants with knowledge of state laws, municipal and County codes and ordinances governing land use and zoning; the principles of planning and zoning; and investigative techniques, including interviewing and fact-finding as they relate to code and ordinance compliance. Certification as a Code Enforcement Officer from a state-recognized organization is highly desirable.
The Code Enforcement Officer I is the entry-level classification in the Code Enforcement Officer series and reports to the Supervising Code Enforcement Officer. Incumbents perform the more routine investigative and compliance work while acquiring the training and skills necessary to perform the full range of code compliance activities.
The Code Enforcement Officer I is a natural progression underfill for the Code Enforcement Officer II. Incumbents are eligible to promote to the Code Enforcement Officer II level upon successful completion of their probationary period, which would include a satisfactory performance evaluation and any additional qualification requirements.
