City of Indio is seeking a Senior Code Enforcement Officer to lead inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial properties, ensuring compliance with codes and ordinances. The role requires independent judgment, training abilities, and effective communication with property owners and other agencies.
This full-time position offers opportunities to advance public safety and community standards within the city. A valid driver’s license and PC 832 certification within one year are required.
The employee must be willing to work a flexible schedule: may work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and employee may need to work a flex shift or a cover shift.

Under general supervision, leads, oversees, and participates in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for performing inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial properties and transient businesses to determine compliance with applicable federal, state, and local codes, laws, regulations, and ordinances relating to maintenance of properties and structures and business licensing; initiates enforcement action and issues citations and notices; performs other related duties as required.
Senior Code Enforcement Officer
The Senior Code Enforcement Officer is the advanced/lead journey level classification in the Code Enforcement Officer series. Incumbents are expected to independently perform the more complex inspection and code enforcement responsibilities involving codes and regulations in a broad range of areas, including zoning, building, housing, parking citations, vehicle abatement, health, and safety. The work requires independence and discretion in working with the public and in conducting field inspections, and involves a proactive implementation of applicable codes and regulations. Incumbents exercise independent judgment and may act in a lead supervisory capacity, including assisting in employee evaluations. This class is distinguished from the next higher classification of Code Enforcement Supervisor in that the latter performs a full range of supervisory code enforcement duties.

Receives general supervision from the Code Enforcement Supervisor and may exercise functional and technical supervision over Code Enforcement Officer I/II and other personnel, including assisting in employee evaluations.
Senior Code Enforcement Officer
Education:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience:
Two years of experience equivalent to a Code Enforcement Officer II with the City of Indio.
License/Certificate:
Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license.
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a PC 832 within one year is required.
