Job summary

The Charter Township of Chesterfield Building & Code Enforcement Department is hiring for a Code Enforcement Officer. You will enforce township and state codes, inspect buildings and construction sites, issue citations, and inform homeowners and developers about regulations. The role aims to preserve neighborhood and business quality and may include other duties as assigned.

Normal hours are weekdays, with occasional Saturdays, typically 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Qualifications

• Prior law enforcement training or equivalent experience.
• Public Sector (city/county/municipality) code enforcement experience.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Michigan driver's license and insured vehicle for authorized travel.

JOB SUMMARY

Under authority of the Director of Building & Code Enforcement, this position will be responsible for the enforcement of Township and State codes and ordinances, and performs various tasks, including, but not limited to: inspects and monitors buildings and home construction sites; issuance of citations and letters to homeowners or developers; provides information on Township regulations to homeowners and developers; preserves the quality of business and neighborhoods; performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience)

REQUIRED

• Prior law enforcement training or equivalent experience.
• Previous Building Department, Planning & Zoning, or Code Enforcement experience in the Public Sector (i.e., county or municipality).
• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Test.
• Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and an operable insured automobile for authorized travel.

PREFERRED

• Minimum of five (5) years code enforcement and/or law enforcement experience.
• Experience with BS&A software.
• Ability to speak, read and understand a language other than English.
