Job summary

The City of Edinburg seeks a Code Enforcement Officer to perform on-site inspections and enforce health and safety codes in Edinburg, TX. You will inspect restaurants, day cares, grocery stores, and residences to ensure compliance; excellent judgment and customer service are essential.

Qualifications include a HS diploma or GED, experience in code enforcement, ability to obtain licenses within a year, and bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalency.
  • Associates Degree in general studies (preferred).
  • Requires one (1) year of experience in code enforcement or related field.
  • Three (3) years' experience in Code Enforcement and Health Food Establishment Inspections (preferred).
  • Must obtain Code Enforcement Officer License within one year of employment.
  • Must obtain Food Manager Certification within one year of employment.
  • Must have a current valid class 'C' driver's license from the Texas DPS with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site inspections to ensure compliance and approvals for opening of restaurants, day care centers, and other establishments.
  • Regularly visit Edinburg businesses and residences and respond to complaints.
  • Inspect commercial and residential locations to ensure codes are followed; provide helpful customer service.

CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

This Code Enforcement Officer position earns competitive pay of $16.72/hr. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

This position is to conduct on-site inspections to ensure compliance and approves for opening of restaurants, day care centers, school cafeterias, foster and adoption home applications, grocery and convenience stores. Your work typically regular visits to Edinburg businesses/residential locations and responds to complaints filed. Your job is essential to the city, you inspect commercial and residential locations to ensure codes are being followed. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support as needed. The city needs someone like you with great people skills in providing excellent customer service to all our customers, and finds genuine enjoyment in what you do!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CODE ENFORCEMNT OFFICER
  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalency.
  • Preferred: Associates Degree in general studies
  • Requires one (1) year of experience in code enforcement or related field.
  • Preferred: Three (3) years' experience in Code Enforcement and Health Food Establishment Inspections.
  • Must obtain Code Enforcement Officer License from a recognize agency within one (1) year of employment.
  • Must obtain Food Manager Certification within one (1) year of employment.
  • Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
