This position primarily involves conducting field inspections to identify violations, responding to complaints, and working with non-compliant properties and businesses to ensure compliance. The Code Enforcement Officer also works in an office setting, maintaining accurate documentation and case files for all investigations, inspections, enforcement actions, and other job-related activities. This includes detailed records of code enforcement activities to substantiate violations, as well as creating diagrams, illustrations, and taking photographs.
- Inspects the City for violations, works with property owners on the phone, face-to-face and through written correspondence to obtain voluntary compliance.
- Investigates complaints and attempts to make contact with the owner(s) to bring the property into compliance if violations are determined to exist.
- Initiates code enforcement proceedings ultimately appearance before the City’s Hearing Officer if owner does not comply with code.
- Performs routine office tasks such as data entry, record maintenance, and filing, copying, faxing, and preparing correspondence.
- Removes illegal temporary signage from roadways when necessary.
- Completes all office duties and responsibilities associated with this position.
- May have to work on weekends, ensuring that the City has one or more Code Enforcement Officers on duty throughout the week.
- Enforcement Officers are responsible for providing testimony and evidence at Code Enforcement Hearings.
- Performs other duties as required.

- High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- 2 or 4-year degree in criminal justice, public administration, business administration, or
- similar field preferred.
- 5 years of administrative experience working with high level of public contact, including enforcement, inspection, or investigation.
