The City of Altoona is seeking a Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector to enforce city codes and promote blight reduction while respecting property owners and tenants. The role involves indoor and outdoor investigations, property inspections for violations, and issuing notices to comply.
Certification under the IPMC is preferred and must be earned within six months of appointment. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalency and a valid state driver’s license.
The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of the practices and procedures related to property maintenance and the skill and ability to interact with the public in a manner that promotes the City's goal of reducing blight while maintaining respect for property owners and tenants. Individuals will conduct indoor and outdoor field investigations; inspect properties for violations; issue and post warning notices, notices of violations, corrective notices, and orders to comply; while performing a variety of field and office work to support and comply with City regulations and ordinances.
Individuals must have a High School Diploma or Equivalency and a valid state drivers' license. Certification as a Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector through the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) is preferred, and required within six (6) months of appointment.
