City of Des Peres is seeking a motivated Code Enforcement Officer and/or Building Inspector I or II to perform inspections, plan reviews, and compliance work. The role includes training opportunities with the Building Official and growth based on experience and certifications.

The position emphasizes public safety, compliance with municipal codes, and quality development for the city, with salary ranges and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Trade School Certificate or equivalent technical education is preferred.
• Ideally, one year of experience in code enforcement and four years in building inspection; equivalent combos welcomed.
• Graduation from High School or GED with at least two years in construction or inspection.
• Higher levels of training and experience will be considered for corresponding titles and salary ranges.

Responsibilities

• Investigate property complaints, document findings, issue violation notices, and follow up to ensure compliance.
• Conduct residential inspections from start to finish, verifying plans and codes.
• Review plans and permits for zoning, floodplain, and land disturbance compliance.
• Prepare staff reports, summaries, and board denial letters; attend meetings as needed.
• Maintain inspection records and assist Building Official with reports and documentation.
• Pursue ongoing professional development and certifications relevant to code enforcement and inspection.
