The City of Burien is seeking a Code Compliance Officer to investigate and resolve complaints related to City Codes on building construction, property maintenance, zoning, and land use. The role blends field inspections with office work and requires coordinating abatements in partnership with City departments and the City Attorney's Office.

Ideal candidates have strong knowledge of code enforcement procedures, investigative skills, and the ability to communicate complex codes to the public.

Formación

• Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, policies, and procedures related to code.
• City layout and procedures related to city enforcement and code enforcement.
• Conflict resolution methods and rights of entry regulations in nuisance abatement (legal procedures).
• Investigative and research techniques for nuisance abatement and code enforcement.
• Laws relating to trespassing, privacy, owner and tenant rights.

Responsabilidades

• Collaborate with other departments to improve code enforcement processes and ensure business licensing compliance.
• Coordinate warranted abatements/cleanups.
• Coordinate inspections or site visits with owners, tenants, and other entities.
• Gather evidence for enforcement action and document with photographs and records.
• Inform owners of legal processes and options to resolve violations.
• Issue notices or orders for fire-related violations documented by departments.
• Meet with owners and developers to review and resolve violations.
• Prepare and maintain case records and enforcement files for litigation or hearings.
• Testify in court and during administrative proceedings as required.
• Track time spent on job functions for reporting.
