Job summary

The City & Borough of Sitka Alaska is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to inspect properties within city limits for violations of city, local, and state codes. The role focuses on property maintenance, abandoned properties, signage, permits, and licensing.

You will investigate complaints, secure evidence, attend Code Enforcement Board meetings, issue notices, and maintain case files. A Florida driver's license is required and may be considered in the qualifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; two years of field enforcement experience in criminal justice, occupational license, sanitation, health, zoning, or engineering laws; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of properties within city limits for violations of city, local and state codes.
• Secure evidence of code violations and report actions to correct or failure to correct to the proper authority.
• Investigate complaints and take action necessary to ensure correction.
• Attend Code Enforcement Board meetings and provide evidence/testimony as necessary.
• Serve orders directed by the Code Enforcement Board upon the respective parties.
• Contact individuals to explain ordinances and answer questions about what is allowed.
• Prepare letters, notices to comply, and summons to those not complying.
• Maintain complete files of all violations and process cases in department systems.
