Job summary

Upper St. Clair Township is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to interpret and enforce Township Codes, under the Director of Planning and Community Development. The role requires vigilance in monitoring and investigating code violations, maintaining records, and preparing legal documentation as violations arise.

On-site work and collaborations with Public Works and Tax Office are required. The position is exempt under the FLSA, with standard hours and potential additional hours as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma/GED required.
• Bachelor's Degree and 2+ years of experience in code enforcement, construction, inspection, or related field; or Associate’s Degree with 4+ years; or 8+ years with High School Diploma.
• Knowledge of enforcement of regulatory codes and municipal laws.
• Ability to read land surveys and construction plans.
• Strong written and spoken English communication.

Responsibilities

• Monitor violations via complaints, input, and patrol; enforce code sections listed in the job description.
• Investigate reported code violations on private and public property and determine additional violations.
• Maintain all warning, notice, inspection, and violation records.
• Follow up on violations with advisories, warnings, and Notices of Violation to ensure correction.
• Prepare documentation for formal legal actions and testify as needed.
• Process and issue Street Opening Permits; coordinate with Public Works on permit compliance.
• Review Municipal Claims letters and coordinate with Tax Office on results.
• Issue Grading Permits with Public Works and Township Engineer.
• Prepare activity reports and assist Director as directed.
