Job summary

The City of Oak Park is seeking a Code Assistance Officer to enforce city codes, inspect rental properties for compliance with the International Property Maintenance Code, and support the Division with clerical duties. The role involves investigating complaints, issuing citations when necessary, and preparing reports and court documentation.

The ideal candidate has rental inspection experience, knowledge of local ordinances, and proficiency with BS&A, Word and Excel.

Qualifications

• Degree from an accredited high school, or training equivalent sufficient for maintaining records and reports at level necessary for use in court.
• Experience in rental inspection, code compliance and enforcement.
• Knowledge of International Property Maintenance Code.
• Knowledge of ordinances pertaining to signs, litter and zoning.
• Ability to assemble data and to prepare and maintain correspondence, records, and reports.
• Ability to communicate with and work effectively with the public and other employees.
• Knowledge of BS&A software, Microsoft Word and Excel and the ability to navigate through internet resources.

Responsibilities

• Investigates complaints by citizens of alleged code/ordinance violations and takes steps to correct problems.
• Performs rental inspections to ensure compliance with City Ordinances and the International Property Maintenance Code.
• Issues citations when appropriate and presents documentation in court as needed.
• Testsifies in court and maintains written reports with evidence for court use.
• Provides clerical support by answering phones and issuing permits.
