Job summary

Cobalt Boats, LLC is seeking a Process Engineer to develop, optimize, and sustain manufacturing processes for boats and marine components. You will enhance safety, quality, cost, and delivery by analyzing methods, implementing improvements, and supporting cross-functional teams through the manufacturing lifecycle.

The role focuses on fiberglass layup, resin infusion, bonding, welding, machining, assembly, and finishing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 2–5 years of process/manufacturing engineering experience (marine, aerospace, automotive, or composites preferred).
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production systems.
  • Experience with process documentation and continuous improvement tools.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • CAD experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain manufacturing processes used in boat and marine component production.
  • Design, document, and improve processes for fiberglass layup, resin infusion, bonding, welding, machining, assembly, and finishing.
  • Create standard work, process flow diagrams, and manufacturing routings.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen).
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support to production teams and assist with NPI and ramp-ups.
  • Support audits and compliance with ISO, ABYC, and marine standards.

This role focuses on improving safety, quality, cost, and delivery by analyzing production methods, implementing process improvements, and supporting cross-functional teams throughout the manufacturing lifecycle.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Process Development & OptimizationDesign, document, and improve manufacturing processesOptimize processes related to fiberglass layup, resin infusion, composite bonding, welding, machining, assembly, and finishingDevelop standard work instructions, process flow diagrams, and manufacturing routingsIdentify and implement continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen)Production SupportProvide day-to-day engineering support to production teamsTroubleshoot process issues impacting quality, throughput, or safetySupport new product introductions (NPI) and production ramp-upsCollaborate with production supervisors to improve line balance and labor efficiencyQuality & ComplianceEnsure processes meet quality standards, marine regulations, and customer specificationsAssist with root cause analysis and corrective actions for defects and non-conformancesSupport audits and compliance with ISO, ABYC, and applicable marine standardsCost & Efficiency ImprovementIdentify opportunities to reduce material waste, cycle time, and reworkSupport cost-reduction initiatives through process improvements and material optimizationAnalyze production data and KPIs to drive informed decisionsEquipment & ToolingSpecify, evaluate, and support manufacturing equipment, tools, jigs, and fixturesCollaborate with maintenance and vendors on equipment installation and upgradesEnsure safe and efficient operation of manufacturing equipmentDocumentation & TrainingCreate and maintain process documentation and manufacturing specificationsTrain production personnel on new or revised processesSupport knowledge transfer and continuous skill developmentQualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
