Job summary

1X is seeking a coatings and materials manufacturing engineer in California to scale advanced materials for our humanoid robotics platform. You will lead the industrialization of coatings, load-bearing fiber systems, and other materials, directing equipment selection, line design, SOPs, and production training.

You'll work across research, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers to transition lab developments into high-volume production, applying DOE, PFMEA, and process validation to deliver safe,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in chemical engineering, materials science, polymer engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years in materials, chemical, or coating manufacturing.
• Hands-on experience scaling manufacturing processes for coatings, elastomers, polymers, fibers, or composites.
• Experience transitioning R&D to high-volume production.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with root-cause analysis.
• Excellent communication for cross-functional leadership.
• Knowledge of laboratory and production safety procedures and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead scale-up from lab to production rate using capacity, cycle time, and yield metrics.
• Develop and release repeatable manufacturing processes with QA criteria.
• Apply DOE, SPC, PFMEA, and root-cause analysis to improve yield and cost.
• Define CTQ characteristics, measurement methods, and acceptance criteria.
• Source and commission equipment, tooling, and material handling systems.
• Optimize processes to improve quality, reduce cost, and boost throughput.
• Create documentation: process specs, SOPs, training materials, and safety records.
