Job summary

Wallace Montgomery is seeking a coating inspector to join our inspection team in Richmond, VA. Inspect coating systems on bridges and structures, document findings, and ensure adherence to plans and specifications.

The candidate should have a High School Diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, at least 2 years of experience, and a NACE Coating Technician Level II certification. Travel and night shifts may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule inspection phases with contractor's superintendent and agency personnel.
  • Read and interpret structure and bridge plans and specifications.
  • Complete destructive and non-destructive testing as necessary for inspections.
  • Maintain daily field reports and documentation.

Job Location: Richmond Virginia Office - Richmond, VA 23230

Summary

Wallace Montgomery is searching for a coating inspector to join our team in Virginia. Coating Inspectors inspect, observe, and document construction and maintenance projects; inspecting paint and coating systems on bridges, structures, etc. Work is performed under the supervision of a Project Engineer. In most cases, an inspector's day to day direct supervisor may be a client’s direct employee. All Inspectors are required to travel and be available to work in any part of the State, subject to change of assignments, as work requires. We work when the contractor works. Inspectors are required to have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Inspectors must also be able to work night shift when required.

Essential Functions
  • Inspect all phases of highway construction and maintenance projects under the general supervision of senior or supervisory staff, ensuring coating and/or weld quality is in accordance with plans and specification.
  • Monitor and inspect the work of Contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for bridge structure coatings under the direction of the Construction Manager.
  • Monitors and inspects the Contractor’s coating operations to ensure compliance with contract documents.
  • Schedules work and inspection phases with contractor’s superintendent and agency personnel.
  • Advises contractors of violations and recommends adjustments to operations.
  • Takes field measurements of pay items.
  • Maintains daily work reports.
  • Validate Welding for structural work or repairs is performed per industry standards independent of contractor's report.
  • Complete destructive and non-destructive testing as necessary for inspections.
  • Perform and document required materials testing.
  • Read and interpret Structure and Bridge plans and specification.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma / GED required.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • 2+ years of experience.
  • To qualify as a NACE inspector, the Coating/Weld Inspector A must possess the industry certification for NACE Coating Technician Level II (https://www.ampp.org/education/education-resources/courses-by-program/coating-inspector-program).
