Job summary

Redbud Partners LLC is seeking a Coating Inspector I to support QA/QC for pipelines, facilities, and related infrastructure. You will ensure coating activities meet project specs, manufacturer recommendations, and industry standards while preparing inspection and testing documentation.

The role requires AMPP/NACE Coating Inspector credentials, strong communication, and ability to work independently in remote construction environments with travel to multiple sites.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, isometrics, coating specs and ITPs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently in remote construction environments.
  • AMPP/NACE Coating Inspector certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform coating inspection activities on new construction, maintenance, and integrity-related projects.
  • Monitor and verify surface preparation activities and coating application processes.
  • Inspect aboveground piping, buried pipelines, valves, fittings, structural steel, and facility equipment.
  • Measure and document ambient conditions, surface profile, WFT, DFT, cure conditions, and holiday testing.
  • Conduct adhesion testing when required and verify compliance with specs and client standards.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports, deficiency reports, testing records, and project documentation.
  • Identify coating deficiencies and communicate findings to supervision and quality management.
  • Coordinate with construction crews, coating contractors, weld inspectors, and client representatives.
  • Travel to various pipeline spreads, facilities, and construction sites as required.

Job description

The Coating Inspector I is responsible for assisting with the inspection and quality verification of protective coating systems applied to oil and gas pipelines, compressor stations, processing facilities, terminals, tank farms, and related infrastructure. This position supports project quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) efforts by ensuring coating activities comply with project specifications, customer requirements, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable industry standards.

The ideal candidate possesses a current AMPP/NACE Coating Inspector certification and is seeking to build a career in pipeline and facility construction inspection.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform coating inspection activities on new construction, maintenance, and integrity-related projects involving pipelines, facilities, and associated equipment.
  • Monitor and verify surface preparation activities, including abrasive blasting, power tool cleaning, and other approved methods.
  • Inspect coating application processes on:
  • Aboveground piping
  • Buried pipelines
  • Valves and fittings
  • Structural steel
  • Facility equipment and components
  • Measure and document:
  • Ambient conditions
  • Surface profile
  • Wet film thickness (WFT)
  • Dry film thickness (DFT)
  • Coating cure conditions
  • Holiday detection testing
  • Adhesion testing, when required
  • Verify compliance with project specifications, coating manufacturer requirements, client standards, and applicable industry codes.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports, deficiency reports, testing records, and project documentation.
  • Identify coating deficiencies and communicate findings to project supervision and quality management personnel.
  • Participate in project safety meetings and comply with all company, client, and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Coordinate effectively with construction crews, coating contractors, weld inspectors, and client representatives.
  • Support project turnover and quality record compilation.
  • Travel to various pipeline spreads, facilities, and construction sites as required.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to read and interpret:
  • Construction drawings
  • Isometric drawings
  • Coating specifications
  • Inspection and test plans (ITPs)
  • Basic knowledge of corrosion control, protective coatings, and surface preparation methods.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently in remote construction environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Oil and gas facility construction
  • Industrial painting and blasting
  • Quality control or inspection
  • Mechanical or civil construction
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • TWIC Card.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience working on transmission pipelines, gathering systems, compressor stations, gas plants, terminals, or midstream facilities.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk extended distances along pipeline rights-of-way and construction sites.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and access elevated work areas.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work around active construction equipment and industrial operations.
  • Ability to wear all required PPE, including respiratory protection when required.

  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to identify non-conforming work and communicate findings professionally.
  • Ability to work effectively with contractors, inspectors, clients, and project management teams.
  • Desire to develop into a senior coating inspector and advance within the pipeline and facility construction industry.

Typical Projects Include: Natural gas transmission pipelines, crude oil pipelines, gathering systems, compressor stations, meter stations, pump stations, terminals, tank farms, gas processing plants, and other midstream or upstream oil and gas facilities.
