Job summary

Nano Nuclear Energy, Inc. in Oak Ridge, TN is seeking a Fuel Coating Engineer to lead high-temperature vapor-deposition process development for advanced nuclear fuel fabrication.

The role is hands-on, owning coating technologies from laboratory development toward production-ready manufacturing, and involves collaboration with qualification, materials, mechanical design, and controls teams. Reporting to the VP of Fuels Technology, you will operate coating equipment, run experimental campaigns,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field (materials/chemical/ceramic/mech/nuclear).
• Experience with high-temperature vapor-deposition processes (CVD/CVI/pyrocarbon/SiC).
• Hands-on operation and troubleshooting of coating or deposition equipment.
• Strong knowledge of deposition kinetics, gas transport, and coating microstructure.
• Experience scaling coating processes and evaluating reactor performance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize TRISO fuel particle coating processes (pyrocarbon, SiC).
• Develop SiC CVD processes for fuel pellets, controlling deposition conditions and thickness.
• Define requirements for coating furnaces, CVD reactors, and gas-delivery systems.
• Execute coating campaigns, troubleshoot equipment and process issues.
• Investigate defects and improve process performance and reliability.
• Establish scalable processes with lab-to-production transfer.
• Maintain process records and material traceability with qualification teams.
