Job summary

NANO Nuclear Energy is seeking a Fuel Materials Scientist to lead the qualification and fabrication strategy for TRISO-coated fuel targeting the KRONOS MMR program. Based in Oak Ridge, TN, you will own experimental campaigns, characterize thermomechanical behavior of CVI SiC, and drive scale-up from R&D toward production.

Qualifications

• Experience validating and transferring destructive and nondestructive characterization methods.
• Knowledge of calibration, measurement uncertainty, detection limits, repeatability, reproducibility.
• Ability to define material lots, sampling plans, and acceptance criteria for heterogeneous fuels.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute campaigns to characterize CVI SiC thermomechanical properties under extreme conditions.
• Plan and support fuel irradiation campaigns and qualification activities.
• Oversee external fuel fabrication with vendors and ensure QA compliance.
• Develop and validate characterization methods, both destructive and nondestructive.
• Establish material attributes and acceptance criteria for TRISO particles and ceramic-matrix fuel.
