Job summary

The State of South Carolina's Department of Environmental Services seeks a dedicated Law Enforcement Officer II for the Shellfish Monitoring Program. You will protect public health by enforcing shellfish sanitation laws, performing water quality sampling, facility inspections, and community outreach on coastal ecosystems.

This outdoor role combines science, enforcement, and service with 24/7 readiness and requires Class 1 certification within one year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in natural/physical sciences or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Associate degree with 2 years environmental health experience is acceptable.
• High school diploma with 4 years of enforcement/environmental health experience.

Responsibilities

• Enforce shellfish sanitation laws through inspections and patrols.
• Patrol coastal areas by boat and vehicle under all weather conditions.
• Collect samples and analyze water quality data for shellfish classification.
• Inspect seafood processing facilities and evaluate sanitation practices.
• Complete investigative and administrative documentation accurately.
• Maintain required certifications/licensures and participate in trainings.
• Respond to environmental emergencies on a 24/7 basis.
