Position Summary
The training captains conduct all training sessions for Freedom Boat Club members. Training captains are the first face of the company for new members and are expected to greet them in a friendly manner, welcome them to the club, and set proper member expectations. Training captains are responsible for developing safe boaters during the training sessions, and for making discretionary decisions about member skills demonstrated during training sessions.
Essential Position Functions
● Conduct all on-water and classroom training sessions for club members ● Contact members to confirm training session with in 24 hours of scheduled date ● Identify where skills are lacking and make recommendations for additional training ● Use iPad or Table to submit training forms
Required Skills
● Current and valid USCG MMC license, 6-pack or higher required ● 3+ years boating experience, preferably with experience captaining in Lake Erie ● Previous instructor or teaching skills preferred ● Basic computer skills required or ability to use iPhone/iPad and digital forms and adapt to new technology
● Ability to communicate and teach clearly and in a way the students understand the course material
● Excellent customer service skills are required ● Ability to work independently, and complete tasks in a timely manner with little to no supervision
● Must be a team player, has a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic ● Ability to work outdoors in the heat for long hours ● Position may involve working weekends and holidays as needed ● This is a Drug-Free workplace, and all applicants must agree to a pre-employment background screening
