BARRINGTON COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT 220

Reports To: Middle School Assistant Principal/Athletic Director

Season: Fall

Position Summary

The coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the athletic team, including developing practice plans, strategizing for games, mentoring student-athletes, and promoting a positive team culture. The coach ensures that the program aligns with the school’s values and goals, fostering both athletic excellence and personal growth among student-athletes.

Qualifications:
  • Licensed as a certified teacher or certified through an IESA approved coaches education program
  • Completed mandated concussion training
  • Previous experience preferred, but not required
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work positively and productively with adults and student participants
Responsibilities:
  1. Follow and enforce all regulations, policies, philosophies, and administrative directives as set by the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA), Board of Education Policies, and District 220 Policies.
  2. Assist in developing team and individual player goals and maintain high expectations, including attending school, passing grades, attending practice and contests, exhibiting good sporting behavior and citizenship. The program is an extension of the classroom.
  3. Plan in advance and prepare for each contest to put the team in the best possible position to be successful.
  4. Attend all practices and games, including transportation, unless ill or with prior notification of the AD.
  5. Complete district reports on conduct or injuries under their supervision.
  6. Maintain equipment and uniforms; communicate with the AD about supplies and equipment needs.
  7. Help manage district athletic facilities, including cleanliness and maintenance of locker rooms, gym, and fields.
  8. Continue professional growth through coaching clinics, courses, or staying current with sport trends.
  9. Maintain good public relations with students, parents, officials, opposing coaches, and staff.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Details:

Student Contact Hours Beyond Teaching Contract: Practice M-F for at least 8 weeks (unless a game is scheduled)

Weekend/Holiday Competitions: None

Physical Demands: Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk, demonstrate, listen, and lift/move up to 50 pounds.

Terms of Employment: Wage Grid Lane: F; Status: BEA or BSEO Stipend Schedule
