Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a senior leader to guide the Cancer Biology program within the CCSG structure. You will align program aims with cutting-edge cancer research, mentor junior faculty, and help recruit talent to advance interdisciplinary collaborations.

As a member of the Massey senior leadership team, you will oversee strategic growth, foster cross-disciplinary partnerships, and drive education and training initiatives across the cancer

Qualifications

  • Academic appointment with tenure, or tenure-track position at the level of Associate or full Professor.
  • PhD, MD, or MD/PhD (or equivalent).
  • Extensive cancer relevant research experience.
  • Proven extramural funding track record, with active NCI funding.
  • Extensive publication experience.
  • Proven trainee and faculty mentorship skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conceive and formulate the overall theme and specific aims of the CCSG program based on leading edge areas of cancer research.
  • Govern the program by leading its members with common scientific interests to collaborate towards reducing to practice the program aims.
  • Organize new member orientation and mentorship of junior faculty members, suggesting senior member mentors, and steering new members to pilot project and other funding mechanisms.
  • Participate in strategic planning and recruitment activities for Massey through Executive and Governance Committees.
  • Promote and coordinate initiatives to foster intra- and inter-programmatic collaboration, across disciplines.
  • Promote research education activities including Center-wide symposia, retreats, poster sessions, training programs, and courses.
  • Reviewing and interviewing potential program members to understand their area of cancer research and identify collaborations for CCSG membership.
