Job summary

Philips is seeking a co-op R&D Engineer (Cleaning & Disinfection) for New Kensington, PA, Jan–Aug 2027. The role offers hands-on experience in HealthTech, focusing on cleaning/disinfection of reusable medical devices and adherence to ISO/FDA guidelines.

Ideal candidates are pursuing BS/MS degrees in chemical engineering, bioengineering, microbiology or related fields, with 2+ years of university/internship/co-op experience and strong technical writing abilities. Onsite, 3 days/week at least.

Qualifications

Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a relevant field (BS/MS).
Strong technical writing capabilities and communication skills; basic knowledge in chemistry, material science or microbiology.
At least 2 years of university lab experience or prior internships/co-ops.

Responsibilities

Assist in development, evaluation and validation of cleaning and disinfection strategies for reusable medical devices.
Define and review cleaning and disinfection requirements to be complete, risk-based and testable.
Plan, coordinate and execute cleaning and disinfection testing with internal and external laboratories.
Develop and execute test plans, protocols and reports per ISO standards, FDA guidance and regulatory expectations.
Perform hands-on testing independently and with test technicians.
Assess material compatibility and effects of repeated cleaning/disinfection cycles.
