Job summary

SLB in Mobile, Alabama is seeking a Co-op Engineering Student to assist lead and support engineers across design, fabrication and testing activities. You will help ensure timely delivery documentation and participate in calculations, design reviews, and testing efforts within a manufacturing environment.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a BS in Engineering with a mechanical focus, have completed Calculus II, and can commit to three alternating semesters.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a BS in Engineering with a mechanical emphasis at an accredited program.
  • Successful completion of Calculus II is expected.
  • GPA above 3.0 is preferred.
  • Availability for 3 alternating semesters.
  • Ability to perform moderately complex calculations and data interpretation.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written interpersonal communication.
  • Initiative, teamwork, and the ability to work under time pressure in office and shop environments.

Job description

Co-op Engineering Student

Under the direct supervision of lead and support engineers, the co‑op student is an integral component of the engineering team directly interfacing with team members to help ensure the design, manufacturing, testing, and delivery documentation supporting the project technical aspects are completed timely and with high quality. The co‑op student will be involved with project activities such as calculations and design reviews; technical documentation; fabrication and testing; resolving design issues; modifying designs; and supporting the delivery of the product.

Essential Functions
  • Support project engineering activities at the direction of the lead or support engineer
  • Initiate or correct project technical documentation according to engineering direction or mark‑ups
  • Inspect and document ship‑loose items
  • Compile and organize project load‑out and completion binders
  • Participate in product testing activities
  • End of semester presentation to engineering management team
Job Specifications and Physical Requirements
  • Pursuing a BS degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering program (strong mechanical focus)
  • Successful completion of Calculus 2
  • Preferably maintaining a GPA above 3.0
  • Available to work 3 alternating semesters
  • Ability to perform moderately complex calculations and make basic interpretations of data
  • Strong problem‑solving ability
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and assertiveness, plan and manage work efficiently, work well in teams, work under stress and time pressures, and work in both an office and manufacturing environment
