Job summary

Atlas Roofing Corporation offers an Engineering Co-Op Program at our Franklin, Ohio manufacturing facility. This opportunity provides hands-on learning in multiple engineering areas, including Quality, Manufacturing, Environmental, Health and Safety, and Maintenance Operations.

Engineering co-ops gain practical experience by supporting projects, data analysis, and process improvements, while developing core engineering skills in a real-world setting. Candidates must be U.S.

Qualifications

  • Must be a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in a cooperative education program.
  • Must be at least a sophomore and able to complete a minimum of two work rotations.
  • Must maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe working environment and comply with PPE requirements and EMS procedures.
  • Participate in sample builds, teardowns, testing, and inspections.
  • Support and lead assigned projects in continuous improvement focusing on quality, safety, cost, and productivity.

The Engineering Co-Op Program opportunity is located at our Franklin, Ohio manufacturing facility.

The primary focus of the Engineering Co-Op Program is to provide hands‑on learning and practical experience to engineering students enrolled in a cooperative education program at an accredited college or university. By developing engineering capability in design, development, product knowledge, problem solving and technical support, engineering students participating in Atlas’s Engineering Co-Op Program provide invaluable assistance to Atlas’s engineering community while working in one of the following engineering areas during their co‑op work term:

  • Quality Engineering
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Environmental, Health and Safety
  • Maintenance Operations

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Promote a safe working environment, complies with proper use of PPE, reports incidents, and participates in functional department safety meetings. Exhibits good environmental practices and procedures consistent with job(s) performed and EMS (Environmental Management System) requirements.
  • Participate in sample builds, teardowns, testing, and inspections.
  • Participate, support and lead assigned projects in continuous improvement which include quality, safety, cost, and productivity improvements.
  • Assist in gathering data, analyzing, and drawing engineering conclusions.
  • Assist in gathering information on standardization, new technologies, and cost reduction ideas.
  • Responsible for test setup, execution, data collection, and reporting.
  • Organize and prioritizes work requests to meet project timing requirements.
  • Develop and implements efficiency, cost, and quality improvement ideas.
  • Apply knowledge in engineering procedures, tools, and engineering process development.
  • Conduct problem solving investigations and troubleshooting to assure root cause is identified, counter measures and recurrence prevention are fully implemented.
  • Support and participates in quality and CARE improvement initiatives directly or indirectly.
  • Assist plant management by performing administrative functions.
  • Provide technical support and analytical analysis for material issues.
Education & Experience
  • Must be a full-time undergraduate student, enrolled in a cooperative education program at an accredited college or university.
  • Must be at least a sophomore, and able to complete a minimum of two work rotations.
  • Must maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA
Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to work independently and in a team based environment.
  • Computer skills required include Excel, Word, Power Point
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Problem solving, project management and communication skills are all necessary. In addition, candidates must have ability to generate accurate and concise technical reports.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • General office environment. Personal protective equipment required when in manufacturing areas.
  • Must be able to constantly sit, flex/extend wrist, and/or twist/turn/tilt neck.
  • Must be able to occasionally stand, walk, and lift, carry, push/pull up to 10 pounds.
  • Repetitive computer and administrative tasks require constant hand activity, including: gripping/grasping, writing and/or typing.
  • Must have following sensory functions: color vision, hearing, and speech.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment.
