Job summary

HNTB is seeking a driven roadway engineer student to contribute to highway design and project documentation in a dynamic, team-oriented environment. You will assist in design development, cost estimates, schedules, and specifications, gaining hands-on experience with Civil 3D and presentation materials.

The role emphasizes collaboration with environmental, structural, and transportation-planning professionals while supporting design through submittal and construction phases.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program.
• Two years of post-secondary Civil Engineering study preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and basic engineering concepts.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design and development of highway and roadway projects.

Specific tasks performed by our Roadway Engineers include:

• Assist in the design and development of highway and roadway projects, including geometric design, alignment layout, and cross-sections.
• Producing and delivering highway design projects through a design submittal phase or construction phase.
• Assists task lead/project manager in preparation of conceptual, preliminary, and final designs with supporting documentation.
• Supports development of specifications, cost estimates, and project schedules.
• Prepares roadway design elements including alignments, profiles and corridors in Civil 3D.
• Prepares presentation materials for meetings.
• Assists in preparing, coordinating, and facilitating public presentations and workshops
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental engineers, structural engineers, and transportation planners, to integrate design elements seamlessly.

What You'll Do:

• Assists engineer teams in various tasks and duties.
• Assists Engineer with research, development and design of projects.
• Assists Engineer with the preparation of engineering drawings and documents as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program

What You'll Bring:

• Understands engineering, geometric, and algebraic principles at a basic level.
• Shows proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Accepts and applies direction from peers and supervisors.
• Obtains an understanding of introductory shop drawing and submittal procedures and requirements.
• Ability to perform basic calculations
• Ability to organize information for use in drawings or other documents
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn and take initiative in a dynamic work setting.

What We Prefer:

• Completion of 2 years of post-secondary Civil Engineering program
• AutoCAD and/or MicroStation experience
• Strong interest in transportation and infrastructure
