Job Description

Primary Function: The primary function of the dishwasher is to efficiently clean and sanitize dishes, trays, utensils, and other kitchenware used in the cafeteria and prep kitchen. The dishwasher ensures that these items are free from food residues, grease, and bacteria, meeting hygiene standards necessary for food preparation and consumption. By automating the cleaning process, the dishwasher helps maintain a clean and safe environment, and allows the CNP staff to focus on other tasks, ensuring smooth operations during meal service.

Reports to: The district's Child Nutrition Director & Kitchen Manager

Terms of Employment: Part-time / 10 months / Hourly / 9:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M.

Responsibilities:

  • Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment using dishwashing machines or manual washing techniques.
  • Ensure all dishes are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and dried before being stored for reuse.
  • Keep dishwashing area and kitchen equipment clean, sanitized, and organized.
  • Regularly clean sinks, counters, and floors to maintain a sanitary environment.
  • Properly dispose of kitchen waste, including food scraps and trash.
  • Ensure that dishwashing equipment is kept in good working condition and notify the Child Nutrition Director if repairs are needed.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of kitchen supplies and inform the Kitchen Manager when stock is low.
  • Follow all safety and hygiene standards set by the school and health department regulations.
  • Assist with setup, continual cleaning, and takedown of meal services.
  • May perform various housekeeping or janitorial duties in the kitchen such as sweeping and mopping and in dining areas, such as washing or sanitizing tables, chairs, and serving areas.
  • May be asked to work full 8-hour day if other Child Nutrition Program staff are absent.
  • Assist other Child Nutrition staff during downtime.
  • Perform other related duties as required by the Child Nutrition Director and/or Kitchen Manager.

Certification and/or License Requirements: Must hold a Food Handlers License or obtain one within 60 days of employment.

Education Requirement:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; or one-year relevant work experience in food service.

Job Requirements/Regulations:

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs or 50 lbs with assistance.
  • Must complete 6 hours of USDA Professional Standard training annually.
  • Work flexible hours (early mornings, longer/shorter shifts, nights).
  • Must wear a hair restraint and non-slip shoes when preparing/serving food.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • No jewelry besides a wedding band or necklace that can be tucked into shirt.
  • Nails must be kept short and unpolished.
  • No wearing of strong perfumes/cologne.
  • No cell phone use unless an emergency.

Professionalism & Communication:

  • Demonstrate professionalism by being in regular attendance and arriving on time to work, staff meetings, parent nights, and other duties.
  • Complete required training(s) on time.
  • Check staff email and texts regularly.
  • Follow through on assignments and show independence.
  • Work cooperatively to foster a positive school community environment.
  • Read and comply with all child nutrition policies and procedures.
  • Read and comply with the Procedures Manual, Employee Handbook, Scholar Handbook, and Scholar Code of Conduct.
  • Demonstrate professionalism at all times, remaining calm, respectful, and non-defensive during disagreements.
  • Use professional communication skills in all interactions, including phone, email, and social media.
  • Follow the Beta Academy dress code and maintain modesty in personal social media posts.
