Job summary

Projects Incorporated is seeking a mid-level Vertical Milling Machinist to set up and operate CNC and/or manual vertical milling machines to produce high-quality precision parts. This role is ideal for a machinist with solid hands-on experience who can work independently, troubleshoot routine issues, and consistently meet quality and production expectations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational machining training preferred.
• 5+ years of experience operating and setting up CNC and/or manual vertical milling machines.
• Strong understanding of machining principles, cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and work holding methods.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and GD&T symbols.
• Experience making basic machine program edits and adjusting offsets.
• Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and indicators.
• Ability to hold close tolerances and verify finished parts meet quality requirements.
• Experience troubleshooting setup, tooling, and machining issues.
• Knowledge of shop mathematics, including basic geometry and trigonometry.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to workplace safety.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC and/or manual vertical milling machines.
• Install and align tooling, vises, fixtures, and workpieces.
• Select appropriate speeds, feeds, and cutting tools.
• Perform milling operations including contouring, pocketing, drilling, tapping, and boring.
• Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T symbols, and work instructions.
• Set tool offsets and work coordinates.
• Make basic program edits at the machine (G-code or conversational).
• Inspect parts using precision measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Adjust processes to maintain quality and efficiency.
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and setup issues.
• Perform routine maintenance and machine care.
• Complete job travelers and inspection documentation.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
