Job summary

Silfex Inc., a Lam Research Company, seeks a CNC Machining Team Lead for the 6pm–6am shift in Springfield, OH. You will lead 3–5 axis CNC setup and operation, ensuring part quality through precise metrology and G&M programming.

You will mentor machinists, coordinate with engineering and quality, and drive lean improvements while upholding 5S and safety standards in a fast-paced shop environment.

Qualifications

• Six or more years operating CNC machines with leadership experience (prefer Silfex).
• Fluent in G&M code programming and reading drawings.
• Strong math skills, including trigonometry, and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of 5S and Lean manufacturing concepts.
• Ability to teach standard practices and mentor machinists.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 3- to 5-axis CNC machine tools per work instructions and plans, including offsets.
• Operate multiple production machines and test machine safety features during set-up.
• Verify conformance with dimensional and visual inspections using precision measuring tools.
• Provide training and guidance to machinists.
• Read, write, and understand G&M code programming.
• Set up complex CNC machines and suggest process improvements to engineering.
• Maintain quality by measuring, detecting malfunctions, and replacing worn tools.
• Document measurements and observations in logs.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality control, metrology, and programming to resolve issues.
• Act as acting lead in the absence of the direct supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Overview

Position: CNC Machining Team Lead
Shift: 6 pm – 6 am (C Shift)

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 3‑ to 5‑axis CNC machine tools to machine parts per work instructions and manufacturing plan, including work and tool offsets.
• Operate multiple production machines and test machine safety features during set‑up.
• Verify conformance of in‑process and final products through dimensional and visual inspections using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, profilometers, CMMs, etc.).
• Provide training and guidance to machinists.
• Read, write, and understand G&M code programming.
• Set up complex CNC machines and make modifications or recommendations to process engineering.
• Use proper material handling techniques to ensure product quality and equipment condition.
• Maintain product specifications by performing accurate measurements, detecting malfunctions, and replacing worn tools while adhering to quality assurance procedures.
• Follow work instructions, setup sheets, and other production-related information.
• Document measurements and visual observations by completing production and quality logs.
• Set tooling geometry using tool setter and tool dresser.
• Generate maintenance work orders for repair of CNC machines and equipment.
• Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of Silfex Quality Management System and apply quality and operating procedures appropriately.
• Contribute to lean initiatives by identifying opportunities for improvement and applying lean concepts and tools within the value stream.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality control, metrology, and programming to resolve manufacturing issues.
• Act as acting lead in the absence of the direct supervisor.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
• At least 6 years of experience operating a CNC machine, with 1 year of leadership experience (1 year at Silfex preferred).
• Machine control experience and understanding of input tool geometry.
• Intermediate troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of 5S and Lean manufacturing concepts.
• Ability to apply and teach standard practices and techniques.
• Fluent in G&M code.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Quality- and safety-minded leadership.
• Basic proficiency operating computers, including navigation of software and web-based platforms.
• Strong math skills, particularly trigonometry.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree or diploma from a technical or trade school.
• Troubleshooting G&M code.
• Previous experience as a team lead.
• Knowledge of GD&T.
• Maintenance experience and collaboration with maintenance department.
• Experience machining Si, glass, or other brittle materials.
