Job summary

Metals USA is seeking a CNC Set Up/Swiss Turning Machine Operator for the 1st shift in Torrington, CT. The role involves setting up, programming and operating Swiss turning machines to produce precision parts in aluminum and stainless steel.

You will review drawings, GD&T, tools and cycle through tests to ensure parts meet specifications. Prior CNC CAD/CAM experience, strong math, and attention to detail are essential for success.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Two year technical degree and/or apprenticeship.
• NIMS certificate preferred.
• Must have experience as a CNC Swiss Turning Machine Operator.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings & blueprints.
• Ability to read measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, etc.).
• Strong math skills and mechanical aptitude.
• Computer literacy with CAD/CAM understanding.
• Must be organized with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Plan machining by studying orders, blueprints, GD&T and specs.
• Prepare and operate CNC Swiss turning machines with correct program and tools.
• Translate instructions into machine commands and set references.
• Program lathes with offsets, compensation and tool data.
• Set up mills and lathes with appropriate chucks, tools and attachments.
• Load raw materials and parts, run production to meet specifications.
• Inspect finished parts and verify against requirements.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow safety policies.
• Complete production paperwork and shop data collection.
