We offer a competitive benefits package and have continuous learning and development opportunities.

Role Description

The CNC Swiss Programmer/Operator independently programs, sets up, and operates CNC Swiss-style multi-axis lathes to produce precision-machined components for UTP Solutions' medical device, defense, and aerospace programs. This is a senior, immediate-need hire — the person in this role is expected to run production with no ramp-up period, working directly at the machine control from blueprint to first-article-approved part.

Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, this role focuses on achieving production and quality targets on a 1st shift schedule while adhering to UTP Solutions' high standards for quality, safety, and efficiency. The CNC Swiss Programmer/Operator closely collaborates with the Plant Manager, Tooling, and Quality teams to ensure efficient production processes, and is expected to mentor other machinists as UTP's Swiss/CNC program grows.

Programming and Setup
  • Program, set up, and operate CNC Swiss-style multi-axis lathes (Tsugami Fanuc-controlled) to produce precision components to blueprint and specification.
  • Interpret technical drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications to plan tooling, work holding, and machining sequence.
  • Write, edit, and prove out CNC programs directly at the machine control; optimize cycle time without compromising tolerance or surface finish.
Quality and Troubleshooting
  • Perform first-article and in-process inspection using precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges, and CMM as applicable).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues — tool wear, material variation, program errors — to minimize downtime and protect the production schedule.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and calibration on assigned CNC equipment.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
  • Collaborate with the Plant Manager, Tooling, and Quality teams to optimize machining processes and resolve non-conformities.
  • Train and mentor other machinists and operators in Swiss-style programming, setup, and operation.
Documentation
  • Maintain accurate production, quality, and downtime records.
Key Metrics for Success
  • First-Pass Yield: percentage of parts meeting specification without rework (Goal: ≥98%).
  • Setup / Changeover Time (<2 hours).
  • Scrap Rate: percentage of material wasted during production (Goal: ≤1%).
  • New Program Turnaround Time: 5 days from print receipt to first-article-approved part.
  • Safety incident rate (per 1,000 hours worked).
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or relevant degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of proven experience as a CNC Swiss-style machinist, including hands-on programming, setup, and operation.
  • Extensive knowledge of multi-axis Swiss-type CNC turning centers (e.g., Tsugami or comparable) with Fanuc controls.
  • Proficient in programming Swiss lathes directly at the control.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail on tight-tolerance parts.
  • Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (medical device / ISO 13485, aerospace, or defense) preferred.
  • Ability to train and mentor less-experienced team members.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills; self-directed and able to run production with minimal supervision from day one.
Other Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and industry standards within the facility.
  • Perform the above tasks as needed or any appropriate request that supports the business needs.
  • Support the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization.
Physical Demands:
  • This role requires standing, walking, and the use of hands to operate machinery for extended periods.
  • The employee will be required to lift and move tooling and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular exposure to a production environment, which may involve noise and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), is expected.

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
