Job summary

Nautilus Reels is seeking a CNC Manufacturing Shop Manager to lead the machine shop on a day-to-day basis, ensuring efficient production, organized tools and stores, maintained cleanliness, and strict adherence to quality standards.

You will oversee CNC operations across shifts, manage tool crib and parts inventory, train staff, perform in-process QC, and drive safety and continuous improvement to meet deadlines and customer requirements.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of CNC machining or precision manufacturing experience.
• Supervisory or lead experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of CNC machines, tooling, and processes.
• Experience with inventory management systems.
• Familiarity with quality control tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges; CMM a plus).
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.

Responsibilities

Job description

The CNC Manufacturing Shop Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the machine shop floor, ensuring production runs efficiently, tools and supplies are always available, the facility stays clean and organized, and every part produced meets quality standards. This role combines hands-on shop leadership with inventory management and quality control oversight.

Key Responsibilities

Shop Operations & Production Management

• Oversee daily CNC machining operations across all shifts to ensure production
• schedules and deadlines are met
• Coordinate job scheduling and prioritize work orders based on customer deadlines and material availability
• Supervise, train, and support CNC machinists and shop floor staff
• Troubleshoot production issues and minimize machine downtime

Tool & Supply Inventory Management

• Maintain accurate inventory of cutting tools, inserts, fixtures, raw materials, and
• Establish and manage reorder points to prevent production delays due to stockouts
• Track tool wear and usage to optimize replacement schedules and control costs
• Source and evaluate vendors for tooling and supplies
• Implement and maintain an organized tool crib/storage system with clear labeling and checkout procedures

Facility Organization

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop floor
• Establish daily/weekly cleaning and organization protocols for machines, workstations and common areas
• Ensure proper storage of materials, work-in-progress parts, and finished goods
• Conduct routine walkthroughs to identify and correct organizational or safety issues

Quality Control

• Perform in-process quality checks throughout each shift to catch defects early and reduce scrap
• Inspect first-article parts and in-process samples using calipers, micrometers, gauges and other measurement tools
• Maintain quality control documentation and inspection records
• Identify root causes of quality issues and implement corrective actions
• Ensure finished parts meet customer specifications and tolerances before shipment

Safety & Compliance

• Enforce shop safety protocols and PPE requirements
• Maintain compliance with relevant workplace safety regulations
• Conduct or coordinate equipment maintenance schedules to prevent breakdowns

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in CNC machining or precision manufacturing, with prior
• supervisory or lead experience preferred
• Strong working knowledge of CNC machines, tooling, and machining processes
• Experience with inventory management systems and practices
• Familiarity with quality control tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMM a plus)
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to details
• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Comfortable working in a shop floor environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and coolant/lubricants
