The hours for this position are Monday‑Friday, 3:00 pm–midnight.
Purpose
Set up and operate computer‑controlled machines to perform one or more machine functions on metal workpieces.
Responsibilities
- Review program specifications or blueprints to determine and set machine operations and sequencing, finished workpiece dimensions, or numerical control sequences.
- Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Transfer commands from servers to computer numerical control (CNC) modules, using computer network links.
- Insert control instructions into machine control units to start operation.
- Check to ensure that workpieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
- Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
- Remove and replace dull cutting tools.
- Monitor machine operation and control panel displays and compare readings to specification to detect malfunctions.
- Enter commands or load control media to retrieve programmed instructions. Modify cutting programs to account for problems encountered during operation.
- Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
- Lift workpieces manually or with a gantry crane and safely stage in warehouse area.
- Implement changes to machine programs and enter new specifications, using computers.
- Set up future jobs.
- Work in business system to enter orders and ship material.
- Keep machine clean and area free of debris and work hazards.
- Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
- Package and prepare panels for delivery to customers.
- Comply with all company policies and safety procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience with modification machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with CAD software; Ares Commander is preferred but Autocad or similar software is acceptable.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Experience using mathematical principles and geometry.
- Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to design and production of goods and services.
- Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet) and detect differences in sound pitch and loudness.
- Must be computer literate and have manual dexterity to perform data entry quickly and accurately.
- Must be able to use company computer system and appropriate software such as Trend and GUI.
- Forklift certification (certification may be acquired after hire).
- Must maintain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License with no major traffic violations within the last three years.
- The position works in warehouse and office areas throughout the day, requiring mobility and flexibility to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and sit. The position routinely lifts items as heavy as 50 lbs.
Education: High School Diploma (minimum).
Experience: One to three years in a similar capacity (minimum).
