Job summary

Electric Supply and Equipment Company is seeking a CNC Machinist to set up and operate computer‑controlled machines for metal workpieces. You will read blueprints, mount tools, and transfer commands to CNC modules in a fast-paced warehouse/office environment.

The role requires 1–3 years of similar experience, a high school diploma, and CAD software familiarity (AutoCAD/Ares Commander). Forklift certification may be required and health benefits are available.

  • Familiarity with CAD software; Ares Commander preferred but AutoCAD or similar software acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Review program specifications or blueprints to determine and set machine operations and sequencing.
  • Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines.
  • Transfer commands from servers to CNC modules using computer network links.
  • Insert control instructions into machine control units to start operation.
  • Check that workpieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
  • Listen to machines to detect sounds and adjust machines accordingly.
  • Remove and replace dull cutting tools.
  • Monitor machine operation and compare readings to specifications.
  • Load programmed instructions and modify cutting programs as needed.
  • Set up future jobs and enter orders in the business system.

Job description

The hours for this position will be Monday‑Friday, 3:00 pm – midnight.

Purpose

Set up and operate computer‑controlled machines to perform one or more machine functions on metal workpieces.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
  • Review program specifications or blueprints to determine and set machine operations and sequencing, finished workpiece dimensions, or numerical control sequences.
  • Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Transfer commands from servers to computer numerical control (CNC) modules, using computer network links.
  • Insert control instructions into machine control units to start operation.
  • Check that workpieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
  • Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate.
  • Remove and replace dull cutting tools.
  • Monitor machine operation and control panel displays and compare readings to specification to detect malfunctions.
  • Enter commands or load control media to retrieve programmed instructions. Modify cutting programs to account for problems encountered during operation.
  • Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
  • Lift workpieces manually or with gantry crane and safely stage in warehouse area.
  • Implement changes to machine programs and enter new specifications, using computers.
  • Set up future jobs.
  • Work in the business system to enter orders and ship material.
  • Keep machine clean and area free of debris and work hazards.
  • Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Package and prepare panels for delivery to customers.
  • Comply with all company policies and safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Experience with modification machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with CAD software; Ares Commander preferred but AutoCAD or similar software acceptable.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Experience using mathematical principles and geometry.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) and detect differences in sounds that vary in pitch and loudness.
  • Must be computer literate and have the manual dexterity to perform data entry quickly and accurately.
  • Must be able to use the company computer system and appropriate software such as Trend and GUI.
  • Forklift certification (certification may be acquired after hire).
  • Education: Minimum Level: High School Diploma.
  • Experience: Minimum Amount: One to three years in a similar capacity.
  • Must maintain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License with no major traffic violations within the last three years.
  • Position works in warehouse and office area throughout the day; requirements include mobility and flexibility to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and sit as needed. Position routinely lifts items as heavy as 50 lb.
