Job summary

Acme Industries seeks an experienced CNC Mill Setup Technician for the 2nd shift to build and prove out setups on high-mix, low-volume aerospace/defense components. You will interpret drawings, select tooling, prove out programs, and ensure first article acceptance with tight tolerances.

The role emphasizes independence, tool offset adjustments, and in-process inspections using precision instruments. Competitive pay with shift differential and benefits begins day one.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of CNC milling experience with significant setup responsibility.
• Proven ability to independently set up jobs from start to finish.
• Strong understanding of workholding, tooling selection, offsets, and program prove-out.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T.
• Experience with precision measuring instruments and first article inspection.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot machining and quality issues.
• Aerospace, defense, or heavy industrial machining experience.
• Experience with FANUC controls.
• Exposure to AS9100 and/or ISO quality systems.
• Experience in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
• Previous experience training or mentoring machinists or operators.

Responsibilities

• Perform complete job setups on CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers.
• Interpret engineering drawings, routers, and work instructions.
• Select and qualify tooling, fixtures, and workholding.
• Prove out new and revised programs.
• Make offsets, edits, and adjustments to achieve first article approval.
• Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring tools.
• Read and interpret blueprints and GD&T requirements independently.
• Troubleshoot machine alarms, tooling failures, surface finish issues, and out-of-tolerance conditions.
• Complete setup documents, inspection records, and non-conformance reports.
• Create repeatable setup documentation to support efficiency and quality.
• Communicate production status and open issues during shift transitions.
• Support safety, quality, and 5S initiatives.
• Assist with training and knowledge sharing as the team grows.
