Job description

The CNC Setup Technician is responsible for setting up and adjusting machine tools on CNC equipment. This includes basic part inspection using hard gauges and measurement tools, routine 6S, part quality inspection using a CMM, changing broken/worn tools, performing minor preventive maintenance, following setup instructions to switch between jobs, interpreting CMM reports, making CNC program offsets for shift/drift or tool length/wear compensation, and making CNC program changes.

In this Role, your Responsibilities Will Be:

  1. Set up and adjust CNC Machines according to blueprints, work instructions, tool sheets, and specifications. Load and align parts in fixtures and chucks, ensuring proper clamping and placement.
  2. Select and install correct cutting tools, tool holders, and work-holding devices.
  3. Change tools, touch off tools, and properly home out the machine to ensure correct positioning before production. Adjust machine offsets and tool wear compensation as required.
  4. Identify and correct issues affecting part quality, tool wear, and machine operation.
  5. Edit lines of G-code/M-code as necessary to maintain part specifications and tolerances.
  6. Diagnose operator-reported problems and take corrective action to ensure uninterrupted production.
  7. Work closely with engineering and quality teams when major program adjustments or tooling changes are needed.
  8. Assist operators in resolving quality or machine-related issues in real-time.
  9. Ensure the machine is properly stocked with material and ready for the operator to begin production.

For this Role, You Will Need:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on CNC setup experience
  • Proficiency in reading and editing G-code and M-code for troubleshooting and minor program adjustments
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T
  • Experience using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, CMM reports)
  • Ability to change tools, touch off tools, and home out the machine to ensure accurate setup
  • Strong troubleshooting skills focused on resolving operator issues quickly and effectively
  • Excellent communication skills to provide training and clear instructions to operators
  • Legal Authorization to work in the United States – sponsorship will not be provided for this role
